Vintage-Inspired x Birch: Hard, fine-grained pale wood commonly used in musical instrument making. It’s durability and light weight offer a natural boost to high and low frequencies, allowing for a fuller sound. (Indulge DJ PRETTYHIGH)

High-Design x PRETTYHIGH: From the wood family “Betula,” chosen for its name (within it lies a PRETTYSHIGHN for me) and its light, organic feel. The white birch, while strikingly different than shiny black, compliments the sleek, modern design of Doug.

As I was designing the herb pocket for the dugout, I asked myself, “If I were a wood, what kind of wood would I be?” ha! But really, what kind of wood did I want to use in the dugout and why?

As PRETTYHIGH goes, I rabbit-holed down “properties of wood”… color, texture, use, significance, sourcing...

I first started thinking dark, exotic woods, but as I progressed, I leaned lighter, and simpler. I immediately thought of the gifted white birch logs from my mom’s woods to my patio.

So, birch. I knew it was birch. Because of connections to mom, Tula, me.

light; bright; clean; organic; simple.

Birch: used in musical instrument making because of its durability and light weight.

Light: stimulates sight; make things visible; illuminates; to set burning; natural; not dark.

Bright: to give; reflecting.

Clean: natural; simple; smoothly and skillfully done; well-defined; pleasing

Organic: denoting a relation between elements of something such that they fit together harmoniously as necessary parts of a whole.

Simple: easily understood; straight forward; plain; basic; uncomplicated; humble.
