Misunderstood X Post Modern Indigenous

Now Showing: Misunderstood.

PRETTYHIGH is built on connection. From our signature pieces like Doug and our antique embellished dug out cases, to our inclination toward high-end designer editorial aesthetics and connection to music and the intangible, it helps to get it.

Think of any majorly impactful artist, creative, or artistic movement. Contemporarily and Retrospectively - there was someone who didn’t get it. Misunderstanding clearing a path for those who do.

Misunderstanding allows our true creative vision to thrive. It’s the truth that allows us to find our people.

Glad to find you here; seen in your understanding and being misunderstood.

THE ANIMALS ALBUM COVER

Nina Simone, Lana del Rey, Elvis Costello, and The Animals.

All misunderstood enough to sing about it.

We’ve got The Animals’ Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood cover on the DJ PRETTYHIGH playlist. A perfect fall season track for introspection, creation, and inspiration.

May your live living room cover be a creative spark in your day.

DOUG PARTY OF TWO (product image)

Misunderstanding is orienting. Especially when you understand yourself and vision.

‘If someone constantly misunderstands your intentions, it’s a sign to let that person go.

Because they can be brilliant and not understand what is necessary for your path.

Because the people you care for will not always be “your people”.

Because you have something innovative and amazing to share and someone who hasn’t seen it couldn’t possibly get it.

‘To misperceive me is to not know me… to feel me is to never misunderstand me.’

“I’m just a soul whose intentions are good. Oh Lord, please don’t let me be misunderstood.”

In our style, sourcing, and story, we’re a beacon to our people. Always understood by those who understand.

B & W (kneeling & smokey haze)

Deeply meaningful symbols can easily mean nothing to the uninitiated.

Experience, initiation, and synchronicity are all important elements of understanding. Tools and gifts that allow us to know, & tell others something about where we’re coming from.

What does your understanding say about where you’re coming from? …about where you’re still trying to go?

DOUBLE PHOTO SET (one hit wonder)

The golden medical grade titanium used for PRETTYHIGH’s One Hit Wonder pocket pipe is chosen for its connection to what’s golden.

Like with our brass pieces, we’ve considered the durability, look, and even the process of wear. You’ll love it enough to see it tarnish. Then you’ll love what that warm patina of tarnish says about how you’ve cherished the piece.

BIRCH

Being a design oriented brand means we fine tune our ideas down to the sourcing of materials.

Doug is lined with birchwood, a pale fine-grained wood from the Betula family (a connection to our Tula), that boosts auditory frequency - making it perfect for the crafting of instruments and as a meaningful contrast to Doug’s sleek outer shell.

Before we introduced Doug with his birch lined herb pocket, it was a recurring gift. A bringer of warmth from the woods at mom’s house to the patio at mine. This is how we pass the gift along. Aware of its value. Understanding its unique qualities

HARMONICA x SALLY

Understanding is in the details, the nuanced knowing that allows a visual queue to deliver several conversations worth of information.

Understanding is amplification and being understood is a gateway towards alignment.

When me, Sally, & Janis Joplin’s Bobby McGee spent a day in alignment at The Chat Room - new symbols & signs were added to the personal mythology of PRETTYHIGH.

Doug’s rhinestone cases, a reminder of Sally’s rhinestone baseball cap. Sally’s harmonica, now my own, a reminder of finding yourself where you need to be.

What symbols remind you of pieces of your personal mythology, & how can you add something new with PRETTYHIGH?

LUCITE

When American costumer Joseph H. Meyer Bros. patented lucite in 1941, they saw the materials potential for accessories like costume jewelry.

Today, we use the sleek clear material in making accessories like Doug. Functional, fashionable, & high concept - it’s more of what we already know works.

DRESSED UP DOUG

Embellished in rhinestones & bands of gold, or stripped down in sleek black. Doug always knows the mood.
